Passenger Management
- 1/25If passengers are boarding your vehicle
Always check mirrors and ensure the bus does not move while passengers are entering or exiting. This is essential to avoid injuries and comply with Omani traffic law.
When passengers are standing
Sudden acceleration or braking can cause harm to standing passengers. Regularly monitor internal mirrors to ensure passenger safety during movement.
At the start of your shift
Check mirrors, brakes, emergency exits, lights, and seats. Ensuring these systems are in working order is required before any trip begins.
If a passenger refuses to follow safety rules
You are responsible for enforcing safety, such as seatbelt use or proper seating. For ongoing issues, report to transport control or relevant authority.
When a child boards the bus alone
Ensure the child is safely seated and secure. For school buses, hazard lights should be used and boarding supervised as per Oman school transport rules.
If passengers attempt to exit in unsafe areas
Only allow exiting at designated bus stops. Opening doors near traffic or in unsafe zones violates safety protocol and can cause accidents.
When assisting elderly or disabled passengers
Lower the bus ramp if equipped, offer a hand, and ensure they are seated securely. These passengers require extra care during movement.
At the final stop
Walk through the bus after the last stop. Make sure no items or people and especially children and are left behind before ending the shift.
If a passenger is feeling unwell or unconscious
Do not continue the route if a passenger is unresponsive or ill. Pull over safely and call emergency services 9999 for assistance.
When passengers are fighting or causing disruption
De-escalate the situation verbally. If the conflict continues, call police and do not proceed until order is restored.
If fare payment systems are in use
Supervise fare collection at entry and address system malfunctions through proper reporting. Passengers should be informed clearly.
When dealing with a full-capacity bus
Oman law prohibits overloading. If the bus reaches capacity, do not allow more passengers to board until space is available.
If passengers are blocking doorways or aisles
Aisles and doorways must remain unblocked to allow safe evacuation in emergencies. Politely instruct passengers to move inward or sit.
When luggage or bags obstruct emergency exits
Emergency exits must remain accessible. Luggage must be stored safely away from escape routes to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
At the beginning of the journey
Use the PA system if available to explain seatbelt use, emergency exits, and general safety expectations before departure.
If a passenger is harassing others
Passenger safety is your priority. Separate individuals if necessary, and notify control or police 9999 if harassment continues.
When passengers stand too close to the driver area
Standing near the driver can obstruct controls and is unsafe. Politely ask passengers to remain behind the marked line.
If passengers bring unsafe or banned items on board
Flammable, sharp, or oversized items must not be allowed. Report serious violations to transport authorities or security staff.
When it raining or the floor is slippery
Use the microphone or signage to inform riders. Drive gently to avoid sudden movements that could lead to slips or falls.
At school or work transport pickups
School and company transport must follow specific rosters. Confirm passenger identity and maintain queue discipline during loading.
When operating in tourist or city bus routes
Use multilingual signs or announcements if needed. Drive carefully, especially in areas with high pedestrian traffic.
If a child is left alone on the bus after the shift
Perform a final walkthrough after each trip. If a child is found, stay with them and immediately call the Royal Oman Police 9999.
When loading from roadside bus stops
Minimize passenger exposure to traffic. Use mirrors to check surroundings and ensure all passengers board safely before moving.
If a passenger requests a stop too late
Do not make sudden stops or pull over in unsafe zones. Explain the policy and prioritize traffic safety and legal compliance.
When passengers speak different languages
Keep multilingual safety signage visible. Use simple English, Arabic, or visual cues to communicate instructions clearly.
