Introduction

This post will cover all the information and steps you need to follow to obtain a driving license in Oman.

Omani Driving License

You can use your UK driving license in Oman. However, if you want to drive in the country, it is recommended that you apply for an Omani driving license. You can take a test at any time before being issued one.

The procedure is similar to that of obtaining other types of licenses:

  • You must pass a 30-minute theory test of 20 multiple-choice questions on traffic signs, speed limits, and different road safety rules and regulations.
  • Once successful completed this test, applicants must undergo practical training from an approved instructor over two consecutive days;
  • Applicants must then pass another practical test involving driving skills, such as reversing into parking spaces or turning corners at speed without causing damage to property or other vehicles.

Eligibility for Omani Driving License

To be eligible for an Omani driving license, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Have been a resident of Oman for at least one year.
  • Have a valid passport and residency permit under three months old.
  • Provide proof of health insurance (required by law).
  • You must submit specific documents to obtain a driving license in Oman. These documents include your passport, a residence permit issued by the Ministry of Interior, and a national ID card issued by MOH. Before applying for a driving license in Oman, ensure you have all required documents.

Application Process

Before you start the application process, there are some things that you need to do.

  • Please complete the application form and submit it at an Oman Driving License Center or any authorised agency.
  • Pay the fee, which includes:
  • Eye test – OMR10/- (Omani Riyal)
  • Traffic sign test – OMR10/- (Omani Riyal) * Drum Test – OMR10/- (Omani Riyal) * Slope Test – OMR10/- (Omani Riyal) * Road Test – OMR100/- (One Hundred Omani Rial)

Tests Fees Required to Obtain an Omani Driving License

You must pass several tests and pay fees to obtain an Omani driving license. These include:

  • Eye vision test – to ensure you have good eyesight.
  • Traffic sign test – this is conducted in both English and Arabic languages. You must identify road signs accurately before moving on to the next level of testing.
  • Drum test involves turning left or right when instructed by an examiner while driving on a straight road with no other vehicles around (except yours). Suppose you need to correct any mistakes during this exercise. In that case, it means that your ability to navigate through traffic safely is compromised and, therefore, you cannot be allowed behind the wheel of any vehicle until such time that these issues are adequately addressed through further training sessions, Designated driving schools throughout Oman’s main cities, such as Muscat City Center near Al Bustan Palace Hotel complex, will provide free-of-charge training to all new applicants. The program will instruct participants on managing their vehicles safely to avoid putting themselves or others at risk. The training aims to equip new drivers with the necessary knowledge and skills to operate their vehicles properly, ensuring they can drive safely within city limits.
